about

This trip hop-tinged ‘title’ track’s title hearkens back to Abiyah’s 1970s childhood, when stellar movie soundtracks were the norm and most romantic films had a ‘love theme’. It also explains how the term ‘Strangers Love Me’ has become a mantra for Abiyah to obtain and maintain meaningful connections to combat her struggles with loneliness.

lyrics

Love Theme from ‘Strangers Love Me’

VERSE 1:

walking by
hi! hi!
and you step inside
it’s sideline me now
like it goes away
high high up on the radar
it’s here to stay
it’s here to stay
but it never goes away
and it never goes away
hold oo-ooon
bye bye bye
feel bo-oond
the pleasure’s mine mine mine
can we find another time
you show light and i feel right
i don’t like how this feels right now
and we see what we can fi-yind
and you try to find another time…like
and i try to find another way
another day
meeting you
when we make eye contact
then it’s true-ue
then it must be (whatever track it can fit on, single vocal )

VERSE 2:

connecting dots up in the spots
might alleviate a little loneliness
even on the sidewalk
don’t wanna be past tense
sometimes feels like strangers love me more than friends
when i rock my own trends yeah
stay in my lane
outside your fame
hope we connect some other time
agaaaa-aaain yeah-eah

HOOK:

and say hi to all the people
you might pass by today
don’t need to know their name
just trade glances to be on the same page
…and strangers like me love you, too.

BRIDGE:

yeah, you know my style is the fire
tells you you can say hi or
the next time you notice me
might be tonight

can you decode
the language of body unknown
is a stranger much stranger
than a friend who is known

alone
is how it presides inside
got solace from a smile
that’s all I need tonight

high-fives and winked eyes
big-ups synchronize
real ones recognize
…what should we say?

HOOK/OUTRO:

and you should say hi to all the people
you might pass by today
don’t need to know their name
just trade glances to be on the same
on the sa-a-ame
ohhh, you know
strangers love me and love you, too
(ohhh, oh, oh-oh-oh)
yes, they do-oo-oo
just say hi to all the people

…and strangers like me love you, too.

Boundary-blurring curveball collage of electronica, dancehall, indie rock, avant-hip hop, & punk blended with the fury of a free wild muse.

"Abiyah is the queen of all the mechanical parts of your heart. Her songs let you breathe underwater. She's the only thing your brain and your hips can agree on."
